Review the Compare-at setting and check one product’s current price, reference price and discount conditions.
THE SOURCED NEWS
What happened?
Shopify’s 9 October changelog says Catalog now shares compare-at prices with AI shopping agents, alongside current prices. Previously those agents reading Catalog saw only the current price.
Merchants can review the toggle in the Compare-at section of their admin settings. The announcement concerns Catalog price sharing; it is not a promise of extra sales or universal placement in a shopping result.
SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS
The information still needs to make sense
Choose one discounted product and inspect the details a shopper sees: what the item is, the actual selling price, delivery information and any important limitations. A machine-readable price does not fix an unclear description or an inconsistent offer.
Check that a reference price is genuine and that the reduction is described accurately. If different channels use different offers or timings, keep a record of which conditions apply. Review the relevant current rules for price claims before changing them.
SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS
Check the margin before making the offer louder
Run the discounted order through your cost assumptions. Include postage, payment and marketplace fees, advertising, packaging and expected returns. If a promotion attracts a different order mix, test that mix rather than relying on the full-price product margin.
Then check the settings in your own account and monitor the result with a useful measure. This is a product-data update, not a reason to invent a markdown. A clear, sustainable offer gives buyers better information and gives you a result you can assess.
