THE SOURCED NEWS
The new numbers, with their dates attached
The UK footfall index moved from 104.742 for the week ending 4 October to 103.799 for the week ending 11 October. SellerBundle calculates the weekly change as the latest index divided by the previous index, minus one, rounded to one decimal place.
These BT Active Intelligence data are published by the ONS as official statistics in development. The series is not seasonally adjusted and uses a 2023 average of 100. One week’s movement is not proof of a lasting change in demand.
SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS
SellerBundle: separate fewer visitors from fewer buyers
If you run a stall, pop-up or shop, put last week’s visitors, orders and takings side by side. Fewer visitors with steady orders calls for a different response from plenty of visitors who are not buying. For an online-only shop, national physical footfall is background context, not a measure of your website traffic.
Choose one product line for a quick stock check. Compare the last few weeks of actual units sold with stock on hand, supplier lead time and the cash needed for the next order. Keep notes on local events, promotions and opening hours so unusual weeks do not quietly become your normal forecast.
Use the free reorder planner to test your own assumptions. A cautious trial order can leave room to learn, especially when a supplier’s minimum order would tie up money you need for postage, fees or refunds. Review again after the next comparable selling period.
