Delivery & resilience / Shopify / Global · eligible merchant-managed locations, including the UK

Shopify adds batch packing. Start with five orders, not your whole backlog.

Shopify’s 16 October release lets eligible stores group up to 250 fulfilments for picking, labels, documents and packing checks. The workflow is customisable. Eligibility depends on a merchant-managed location where Shopify label buying is supported; a third-party fulfilment location alone does not qualify.

Your next move

Try a small group of straightforward, ready-to-pack orders and keep a separate check for personalisation, exceptions and actual carrier handover.

THE SOURCED NEWS

One batch, with checks between the steps

Shopify’s default workflow covers picking, label and document printing, then packing verification. Sellers can rearrange steps and assign staff. Barcode scanning can check items; the help guide also allows manual quantity adjustments without a scanner or product barcodes.

Batches are available through the Orders page for qualifying locations. The automatic recent-order option covers unfulfilled orders from the past 14 days. Older orders can be selected manually or added to a batch. The UK appears in Shopify’s supported shipping-label locations.

SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS

SellerBundle: make the first batch easy to understand

Pick five similar orders whose products are in stock and ready to leave. Keep anything awaiting artwork approval, production or an address query out of the trial. Use a clear batch name and keep each order’s items and documents together on the packing table.

Compare the time spent with your usual method, but record errors and rework too. A faster print run is not a win if two labels end up on the wrong parcels. Check that staff can identify which step an exception has reached and who needs to deal with it.

SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS

A matching barcode does not check a printed name

Keep a separate visual check for personalisation, size, artwork and any customer-specific instructions. Matching the base product’s code does not establish that the right name was printed on it. Verify the finished item against its order before sealing the parcel.

Review which documents the workflow prints and when labels are purchased. Keep carrier handover as its own real-world checkpoint. After the trial, compare the fulfilments, labels and parcels, then expand only when the process is reliable. The new batch limit is capacity, not a target you have to fill.
