Technology / Shopify / Global · eligible Shopify fulfilments; carriers and services vary

Shopify Flow can buy labels automatically. Give the rules a careful test.

A 15 October Shopify update adds automatic label purchasing through Flow. The action buys a label for a matching fulfilment using your settings. It does not support fulfilments assigned to a third-party fulfilment service, and buying a label is not the same as handing over the parcel.

Your next move

Start with a narrowly defined order type, confirm weights and services, and check the customer notification timing before turning the workflow on.

THE SOURCED NEWS

What the action does—and where it stops

Shopify says Flow can buy labels when an order meets the conditions you set, using a selected service, package, weight and ship date. The help page specifies one label per individual fulfilment; bulk workflows require iteration.

The action supports fulfilments handled directly through Shopify, not those assigned to third-party fulfilment services. Available services depend on location, destination and package weight. There is also a shipping-confirmation timing setting, so sellers should review what the buyer will receive.

SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS

SellerBundle: automate the boring repeat, not the exception

Choose one uncomplicated order type first, such as a single stocked item with a consistent packed weight. Write down what makes it eligible and which orders should stay manual. Personalised items that still need production, unusual packages and split-location orders deserve a separate check.

Weigh the finished parcel with its packaging rather than relying on the product alone. Confirm the chosen service suits the parcel and delivery promise. Keep a record of the settings you used so a packing colleague can understand why a label was purchased.

SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS

Check the message as carefully as the label

Review when the shipping confirmation is scheduled and what it says. A purchased label must not become an accidental promise that a carrier already has the package. Align the workflow with your real packing and handover process.

Follow Shopify’s testing guidance and inspect the first matching fulfilments before widening the rule. Compare labels purchased with parcels actually handed over, and investigate exceptions promptly. Keep any real test purchase small and deliberate: automatic label buying spends money, while fewer clicks alone do not establish that an order has shipped correctly.
