Choose one location and a manageable product group, then investigate differences before approving an inventory adjustment.
THE SOURCED NEWS
Count first, approve the change afterwards
The new workflow lets staff record physical quantities through barcode scanning or manual entry. Managers can review differences between the count and Shopify’s records before approving changes. The release also describes permissions for carrying out counts and reviewing or approving them.
Shopify’s help guide says a count is tied to a store location. Approving it applies the difference between counted and expected quantities, with the resulting changes recorded in adjustment history. Counting through the Shopify POS app is available at locations with a POS Pro subscription.
SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS
SellerBundle: make the first count easy to untangle
Pick one shelf or a short list of products. Confirm which location you are counting and how similar sizes, colours or variants are identified. Give the person counting a clear way to flag damaged items and anything they cannot identify.
Note how you will handle sales, returns and stock movements while the count takes place. A delivery being unpacked or an order being picked can make a difference harder to explain. Keep a record of the timing so the reviewer knows what happened.
SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS
Treat a difference as a question to investigate
Before approving, compare unexpected quantities with recent receipts, returns and order activity. Recount a sample and check that the correct variant was scanned or entered. Do not assume every mismatch has the same cause.
Save the result and adjustment record, then choose a sensible next count. For made-to-order products, separately note materials, unfinished work and sale-ready stock so you do not promise an item that still needs making. A small accurate trial gives you a useful process to repeat.
