Want tech experience? Check the new plans, then find a real opening.

The government’s 21 October announcement says tech employers are backing 10,000 work-experience opportunities over three years. A separate ambition is 20,000 entry-level jobs a year. These are programme commitments and targets, rather than a list of vacancies open to everyone today.

THE SOURCED NEWS

Placements and jobs are different promises

Employers including Microsoft, Cisco and IBM are named in the work-experience drive. The announcement also describes a UK rollout of the TechFirst programme for secondary pupils. School-age learning, work experience and entry-level employment are different routes, so check which one you are reading about.

The 10,000 work-experience figure covers the next three years. The separate 20,000 annual entry-level ambition can include new positions and existing vacancies employers fill. The announcement does not establish that every opportunity is available now, paid, or open to every age group.

SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS

SellerBundle: start with the skill you want to practise

If you are building a selling business, useful learning goals might include keeping reliable records, making a website easier to use or understanding customer data. Pick one you can explain clearly. Then look for an actual role or programme that gives you a chance to practise it.

Read the named employer’s or delivery partner’s current information. Check the age and location requirements, dates, hours, supervision and what you will do. Ask about payment, travel costs and any equipment you need; do not assume the headline settles those details.

SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS

Make an application shortlist you can act on

Save three suitable options with their official application links and deadlines. Write one example of relevant work you have already done, using material you are allowed to share. A short, clear explanation of your contribution is more useful than a long list of tools.

For school-based TechFirst activity, the government release lists regional delivery contacts for teachers, including separate UK-nation routes. For other opportunities, follow the specific provider’s instructions. Keep commitments that fit around existing work and record a follow-up date rather than applying to anything with a technology label.
