Shopify changes the payment layout. Try your checkout on a phone.

Shopify’s 22 October changelog describes a tiled payment-method layout for checkouts meeting its display criteria, including offering four or fewer methods. Other configurations continue to use the standard list. The announcement describes a design change, rather than a new payment option or fee reduction.

THE SOURCED NEWS

The layout depends on the configuration

Shopify says the tiled view appears only when the payment methods meet certain display criteria. Offering four or fewer is one of those criteria, rather than a promise that every store with that number will look identical.

For other configurations, the existing list view continues. The release is dated 22 October 2026 and does not give a separate universal switch-on date. Use what you can verify in your own store when answering a customer’s question.

SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS

SellerBundle: walk through a normal order

Open a product on a phone, select a variant and follow the usual route to checkout. Check that the payment choices, order total and delivery information are readable. Repeat on a computer so you can spot anything that differs between screens.

Use your normal test process for a payment check, and keep test activity separate from genuine customer orders. Record which methods you saw and whether any step was confusing. A screenshot without customer details can make a support question easier to explain.

SELLERBUNDLE PRACTICAL ANALYSIS

Change one thing at a time

Do not remove a payment method simply to reach the four-method threshold. First check what customers use, its cost and any support issues. The layout is only one part of deciding whether a method earns its place.

If you make a configuration change, repeat the same journey afterwards. Check that the order record and payment status agree before treating the test as successful. Save the result and review date; a clear, reliable checkout matters more than matching somebody else’s screenshot.
