Your Whatnot launch checklist
YOUR LAUNCH CHECKLIST

Your identity documents, bank details and passwords belong in the official marketplace account. This checklist stores ticks only.
1. Create an account and apply to sell
Create your account on Whatnot’s UK seller site ↗ or in the app. In the app, use + Sell to start the seller application. Select your primary category, answer the questions about your selling plans and accept the platform guidelines.
The UK is a supported selling location, but check the current geographic and age requirements in the official help centre. Teen applications have a separate process. Some categories require further approval, even after general seller access.
2. Complete seller details and verification
Use the legal name requested for the application and the address from which you will fulfil orders. Provide identity documents only through the official account. Check for further review requests and complete verification before going live.
Access can be quick, but it is not guaranteed. Luxury and other gated categories may need extra evidence. Confirm your category permission before buying stock for a show.
3. Prepare products buyers can understand
Our suggested stock sheet has an item number, short title, condition, quantity, purchase cost and lowest acceptable price. Put matching numbers on the products or storage trays so you can locate a sold item while presenting.
Describe flaws and included accessories accurately. Keep the show running order separate from the final packing list. Prepare listings in the platform and check which inventory will be used for auctions or fixed-price purchases.
4. Sort shipping before the first show
Weigh the item with its packaging and choose the appropriate shipping profile. For bundles, check the combined weight and any item limits. UK Whatnot orders normally use prepaid platform labels, with buyer-paid shipping on most ordinary orders; seller-funded shipping and other exceptions can still cost you.
Confirm that a test label prints clearly and that you have the necessary packing materials. Review weights and dimensions before generating real order labels. Follow the current UK shipping guidance ↗ for the services and collection arrangements available.
5. Choose a starting price you can accept
Our pricing recommendation: treat the opening bid as a price the item might actually sell for. Include inventory cost, packaging, any seller-paid delivery, platform commission and processing fees, then allow for the contribution you want to keep.
Use the free Whatnot profit and starting-bid calculator. Buyer-paid postage can increase the processing fee even though it is not your product income. Copy your current rate card rather than relying on an old headline percentage.
6. Schedule and rehearse the first live show
Choose the date, category and a clear cover image. Complete the platform’s first-show checklist. Test the camera view, lighting, sound and internet connection, and rehearse how you will display an item, describe its condition and run the sale.
Our practical suggestion: plan a manageable set of products, with notes for each one. Use the notepad to prepare the running order and save it as TXT. A camera pointed at the products can work without showing your face.
7. Pack orders and follow the payout
After the show, review the orders, check shipments and print the official labels. Pack accurately and meet the current dispatch requirements shown in your account. Add the payout method and follow when earnings become available; delivery status and seller eligibility affect timing.
Record what you spent on stock, packaging and any seller-funded extras. Whatnot already offers seller reports and analytics. Use those actual order records to review your results rather than assuming gross sales are profit.
Quick questions
Do I have to show my face?
Whatnot’s getting-started guide says sellers can aim the camera at the items. The presentation still needs to make the product and condition clear.
Can I sell immediately after applying?
Complete the account’s verification and launch tasks first, and any approval needed for your category.
What if nobody bids above the starting price?
Plan for that outcome. The starting-bid tool estimates a price that meets your chosen contribution, based on the costs and rates you enter.
